Puddletown Doula Services is a partnership of two certified labor doulas, Malerie Plaugher and Katie Keller, who serve the Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA metropolitan areas. We are both certified through Birthingway College of Midwifery and have experience working with a wide diversity of families.
I live in Southeast Portland with my husband, our chickens, and our very big dog, Daisy. Most of our small yard is devoted to raised garden beds, where we grow a lot of our groceries. I love hiking, traveling, and the local food scene (and let’s be real – Netflix). I geek out on cooking, preserving, and nutrition research. I feel so honored to support mamas and their families before, during, and after their births – both here in Portland and across the river in Clark County. I look forward to getting to know how I might be able to support YOU in your birth!
I have experience with both hospital and home births, over 40 moms, high risk moms, plus-sized moms, postpartum mood disorders, families conceiving with IUI/IVF, LGBTQ+ families, prematurity, inductions, both medicated and unmedicated birth, cesarean birth, water birth, survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and addiction recovery.
I’m a Portland native and have lived in or around Portland most of my life. I’ve traveled quite a bit, but something about Portland always draws me back. In my spare time, I enjoy baking pies, cooking, gardening, reading, hiking, and visiting farmer’s markets. I have never given birth myself and will never, as I had a hysterectomy due to cervical cancer a few years ago. While this was not how I imagined my life playing out, I do believe it gives me a unique opportunity to bring unbiased care and assistance to other women as they labor and give birth. Despite this, my husband and I were still able to have a family, via gestational surrogate. Being with my husband and my son is my absolute favorite way to spend time!
I have experience with both birth centers and hospitals, families conceiving with IUI/IVF, high risk moms, over 40 moms, LGBTQ+ families, surrogacy, planned and unplanned cesareans, inductions, and both medicated and unmedicated births. I'm certified in CPR and First Aid for both adults and children. I also have experience with induced lactation, and I'm a certified CPST (child passenger safety technician), which means I can help you install your car seats!
